About Us

A Continuous Legal Presence in Bentleigh Since 1947

Our firm’s story stretches back to 1947, when Don Pearn opened his legal practice in Bentleigh. Nearly twenty years later he partnered with Tony Cook, forming Pearn & Cook, a trusted name that served the community for more than half a century. In 1998, the practice merged with Morley Naughton, becoming Morley Naughton Pearn & Cook — the joining of two long‑established local firms.

Meanwhile, Bill Morley had founded his own practice in East Bentleigh in 1971, later relocating it to Bentleigh in 1991. His firm, W. J. Morley, was acquired by Tony Naughton in 1996, forming the foundation of Morley Naughton as it is known today.

For many years, Bill Morley, Tony Cook and Tony Naughton continued contributing their experience as consultants before Bill and Tony Cook retired. Tony Naughton led the firm from 1996 until Brian Burton became Principal in 2025.

Before taking over the leadership of the firm, Brian had already established a strong local presence through Burton Quinn, which he founded in 2022 in Brighton East. His transition into the principal role marked the next chapter in a long tradition of steady leadership, community service and practical, client‑focused legal work.
